Popularly known as the pink city, jaipur was founded in 1727 a.d. by one of the greatest rulers of his time - the astronomer, king sawai jai singh and designed by architect vidyadhar bhattacharya. A marvel of town planning, jaipur was designed in accordance with ancient hindu treatise on architecture, the shilpa shastra. The city palace lies in the heart of the city and is surrounded by wide lanes and neat, well laid-out rectangles for commercial and residential use.  ALSISAR HAVELI ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

Tucked away in the heart of jaipur city is the alsisar haveli. Built in a traditional rajput style with large courtyards, corridors with arched pillars and a huge garden in front. The rooms too are spacious with stained glass ventilators and arched columns. Antique furniture, chandeliers and traditional fabrics maintain its Medieval look. JAI MAHAL PALACE ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

The jai mahal palace was built in the 18th century by hargovind natani in a typical palace style with high domes, chhattries and cupolas with intricate lattice work done in the rajasthani tradition. It was taken over by the taj group in the early 80's. The palace has been painstakingly restored to its former glory. The l-shaped palace has most of the rooms overlooking a rooms overlooking a beautiful garden that replicates an 18th century garden laid out by a mughal emperor, 200 kms east of jaipur. The interiors have been tastefully done. The elegant and luxurious suites have very interesting 19th century imprints of rajput architecture by sir swinton jacob. Other interesting features in the palace are old crystal mirrors and chandeliers, miniature paintings and tapestries, stained glass panels and marble inlay work. Other special events here are the cultural programmes organized by the hotel in the evenings. KHASA KOTHI ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

Khasa kothi meaning " special mansion " was constructed by sawai ram singh ii a hundred years ago as the state guest house. Portions were added to the main building by his successors. After independence it was given the status of a state hotel. This imposing indo-colonial building is surrounded by tall shady trees and well maintained lawns. Rooms are large and have been so planned that most of them overlook the gardens. All modern amenities are made available. The hotel has a convenient location close to both bus stand and railway station. Puppet shows and folk dances entertain the guests. MANDAWA HOUSE ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

Mandawa house was constructed in 1896 by thakur bhagwat singh of mandawa. This was the jaipur residence of the mandawa royal family which has recently been converted into a hotel. A traditional rajput style building, it has courtyards, open terraces and large, spacious rooms. Care has been taken to maintain an authentic rajasthani ambience in all the rooms and they have been aesthetically furnished. All modern amenities have been provided.

NAHARGARH FORT ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

The magnificent fort of nahargarh lies on a hill overlooking the city of jaipur. Built in 1734 by the founder of jaipur sawai jai singh to defend his new city, this was also a retreat for his maharanis. Additions were made to the original structure by sawai ram singh in 1868 and later by maharaja madho singh when the elaborate upper storey - the most elaborately painted rooms were constructed. More halls and courtyards were also added. Stained glass windows, excellently carved doors and the most amazing paintings make this hill-fort strikingly attractive among other pleasure palaces of its kind. The fort extends to the tip of the hill from where one can see the entire city bathed in the fresh early morning sunlight or the spectacular sunset of the evenings.

NARAIN NIWAS PALACE ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

Narain niwas palace was consturcted in 1928 a.d. by one of jaipur's most able and distinguished soldiers, major general rao bhadur amar singh, the first indian commissioned into the britsh army. Centrally located and designed in traditional rajput style, the narain niwas is surrounded by sprawling landscaped gardens and mango orchards. The woods provide a safe haven to several species of birdlife and dancing peacocks. The large rooms have well maintained period furniture, carpets, paintings and other objects d'art.

RAJMAHAL PALACE ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

It was built in 1729 a.d. by maharaja sawai jai singh of jaipur for his favourite maharani. From 1821 onwards, the palace was used to house the British resident at jaipur. This palace has played host to several vvip's like queen Elizabeth and Jacqueline Kennedy. Centrally set in 15 acres of well maintained lawns, the rajmahal palace was converted into a hotel in 1979 and today it belongs to the taj group of hotels. The palace has spacious suites with high ceilings, chandeliers and period furniture. Beautiful paintings and antiques have been carefully preserved and are reminiscent of the royal past. RAMBAGH PALACE ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

 The rambagh palace is one of the most beautiful palaces in india. It was constructed in the 19th century originally as the garden house of a royal maid. After the death of the maid kesar badaran, sir swinton jacob, a british engineer was given the task of converting the garden house into a guest house cum hunting house. Rambagh palace later became home to one of the most beautiful women in the world, maharani gayatri devi of jaipur. The palace played host to several royal visitors of India and abroad including queen Elizabeth and prince Philip. Several lavish banquets and celebrations were held here. Several luxurious suites like the princess suite, maharani suite, pothakhana and maharaja suite, to name a few, still have the original royal elegance. ROYAL CASTLE, KANOTA ( JAIPUR - RAJASTHAN )

The royal castle at kanota was built in the 18th century by thakur zorawar singh champawat. Located 14 kms from jaipur, this medieval age castle is built as the last defence for the city of jaipur and is well equipped with cannons and a well stocked armoury. The fort also has a unique library, with gold work on the walls and a collection of over 10,000 rare books, manuscripts and miniatures. A special attraction in the castle is its museum which houses old arms saddlery and buggies for horses, camels and elephants. The castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a fruit orchard.
