Located 130 kms west of jaipur this 7th century pilgrimage town was
established and ruled by chauhan rulers and later the rajputs, the mughals, the
marathas, and the British have ruled for several centuries, all leaving their
marks here. A great ruler prithvi raj chauhan is associated with the place,
which is also important as the final resting place of the greatest of the sufi
saints - khwaja moinuddin chisti. The dargah shariff, where the saint lies
buried is visited by lakhs of muslim pilgrims every year during urs. The other
notable monument of ajmer is adhai-din-ka-jhompara with its ornate calligraphic
inscriptions.

Merwara Estate (Tikam Niwas)
The merwara estate, previously tikam niwas, was constructed in 1887. Located
on a hillock overlooking the anna sagar lake on one side & a park (daulat
bagh) on the other, & constructed in typical raj style, with painted
ceilings, Italian marble floors & etched Belgian glasswork.
